Q: What is the Shelf Life of Nestle® Pure Life® Purified Water?
A: The shelf life of our single-serve size bottles, which are made of clear (PET) plastic, is 18 months. The shelf life of our white, opaque (HDPE) 1-gallon bottles is 18 months.
The shelf life of our 3- and 5-gallon bottles is 24 months.
Q: Where can I find the Manufacturing Code?
A: All bottles have the date code on the bottle near the label.
Q: How do I read your manufacturing code?
A: Our manufacturing code consists of two lines of printed characters. The first nine numbers of the first line represent the date of manufacture:
- The first two numbers refer to the month, the next two refer to the day of the month, and the next two represent the last two numbers of the year.
- The next three numbers represent the Julian date of manufacture.
- That is the day of the year from 001 (January 1) to 365-66 (December 31).
- The next four characters consist of the letters WF or WC followed by two numbers. This code identifies the manufacturing plant.
- The last number refers to the production line.
- The first four numbers on the second line represent the time of manufacture. BB, standing for “best by” followed by the date, follows this.
Q: What is the “Best By” date on your product?
A: We include a “best by” date as a 2 year or 1 1/2 year shelf life window, depending on the product, by which the consumer may measure "the age" of the water. You know it has been bottled 2 years, or 1 1/2 years, prior to the “best by” date on the bottle.
Q: Can the product be used beyond the “Best By” date?
A: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which regulates bottled water, does not require an expiration date for bottled water products. For optimum taste and quality, we recommend that the consumer drink the water by the “best by” date. Bottled water products are best when stored properly. We recommend storing water in a clean, cool, odorless environment away from direct heat or sunlight.
Q: Do I need to refrigerate the product after opening?
A: Individually sized water bottles should be consumed as soon as possible. This is to ensure optimum freshness and quality.
Once opened, containers can be stored for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. For larger bottles, like our one-gallon bottles, the water should be poured into a separate container for consumption. It should not be consumed directly from the bottle itself. This is to help ensure optimum freshness and quality.
Q: What is the pH of Nestlé® Pure Life® purified water? Is Nestlé® Pure Life® bottled water an alkaline water?
A: The pH ranges from 6.8 to 7.4. pH is measured on a scale from 1-14. 7 is neutral. Anything below 7 is acidic and anything above is alkaline.

A: Calcium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate, Magnesium Sulfate.
Q: Why is Sodium Bicarbonate in Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water?
A: Sodium bicarbonate is an inorganic compound composed of sodium and bicarbonate. It’s sometimes referred to as “baking soda” because, in larger quantities, it’s a common ingredient in bakery products. At a much smaller level, sodium bicarbonate is naturally found in most spring and mineral waters, and we chose to include the minerals we add to our Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water to create a clean, refreshing, smooth taste. All of the minerals we add to Nestlé Pure Life Purified Water are high purity inorganic ingredients obtained through manufacturing processes from natural materials.
Q: How can I view your water quality report?
A: So glad you asked! We have detailed reports about our bottled water quality available here (add link to report). The reports are based on independent testing results from certified labs.
Q: Does Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water contain fluoride?
A: We do not add fluoride to our Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water. Fluoride that might be in the source water is removed through our demineralization process. Fluoride comes up non-detected in our testing. See quality report here (add link to Quality Report) for more details.
Q: Does Nestlé® Pure Life® Purified Water contain sodium?
A: Sodium levels range from 4.4 to 9.5 milligrams per liter, or 2.2 to 4.75 milligrams per half-liter bottle, which is considered sodium-free by FDA labeling guidelines since the amount is nutritionally insignificant.
Q: Are Nestlé® Pure Life®'s water bottles BPA-free?
A: The FDA and other international health organizations and regulatory agencies have approved the kind of plastic we use as a safe food packaging material. We continually evaluate packaging materials for safety and abide by all FDA regulations. Additionally, all current and available scientific evidence indicates that our bottled water is best when consumed by its “Best By” date, stored at moderate temperatures and kept away from strong-smelling cleansers and chemicals.
BPA Free is a term than can only be used with certain types of “virgin plastic” bottles, meaning bottles made only with new plastic material that has not been previously used, sterilized and re-made into plastic pellets. Today, the majority of our bottles are made with virgin plastic and are BPA free.
As a company, we are starting to use recycled plastic in our bottles and eventually would like all of our bottles to be made with 100% recycled plastic. In this way, we can give new life to some of the existing plastic in our society, helping to keep it out of landfill and waterways. Our recycled plastic meets or exceeds all FDA guidelines. Recycled plastic is virtually BPA-Free, but due to recycling process, we cannot use the term BPA-Free.
Q: Where does Nestlé® Pure Life® water come from?
A: Our Nestle® Pure Life® Purified Water comes from municipal or well sources, and undergoes a 12-step quality process during which minerals are added back to the product for consistent taste.
